Bob Marley and the Wailers were very well known in the 1970's for their music and their Rastafarian religion that they practiced. The band suffered a huge loss in May of 1981 when the Wailers front man Bob Marley died of cancer. The Wailers still continue to tour to this day but it is not the same as when Bob was there.

The Band

The Band
Originally uploaded by mder.

Here is a band that is not given that much credit as being a good jam band but they are definitely one of the best.

The Band was a very influential on rock music in the late 60's early 70's with their rock & roll / folk sound that they created. They were discovered by Bob Dylan in the early 60's when he heard them at a show and was immediately impressed. A few months later Dylan had signed them to his label and started touring with him. They toured all over the country playing at all different types of venues. After years of touring and playing at shows The Band had finally made a name for themselves.

The Band consists of five members:

Rick Danko

Levon Helm

Garth Hudson

Richard Manuel

Robbie Robertson

Some of their well known songs that you might be familiar with are, "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Up On Cripple Creek". If you any more interest in The Band you click on the link below for more info.

Led Zeppelin

Originally uploaded by mder.
The band consist of:

Robert Plant - lead singer
Jimmy Page - guitarist
John Bonham - drums
John Paul Jones - bass

Formed in 1968 by Jimmy Page (guitarist) the band first called themselves "The New Yardbirds". They would later change their name to Led Zeppelin after, Keith Moon of The Who said that their band would, "go over like a lead ballon."

This band creates a sound that combines rock, blues, and heavy metal all into one and it sounds incredible. With John Bonham smashing the drums, Robert Plants high sreaching voice, and Jimmy Pages blues guitar riffs this band created a sound like no other. Below is a list of the albums Led Zeppelin has created during their career.

Led Zeppelin (1969)
Led Zeppelin II (1969)
Led Zeppelin III (1970)
Four Symbols (1971) (unofficial title)
Houses of the Holy (1973)
Physical Graffiti (1975)
Presence (1976)
The Song Remains the Same (1976)
In Through the Out Door (1979)

The following albums were issued after the band ceased recording:

CODA (1982)
Remasters (1990)
Profiled (1990)
Box Set (1990)
Box Set II (1993)
Complete Studio Recordings (1993)
BBC Sessions (1997)
Early Days: Best of Led Zeppelin Volume One (1999)
Latter Days: Best of Led Zeppelin Volume Two (2000)
How the West Was Won (2003)

Formed by three musical geniuses in the early 1960's Cream revolutonized the sound of eletric music forever. The band consisted of:

Eric Clapton - guitar
Jack Bruce - bass
Ginger Baker - drums

This band was all about improvising and pushing new barriers of music. Even at their live shows they would jam out and try new things. Sometimes they played solo's that would last as long as twenty minutes and not only would one player be soloing but all three at the same time!Unfortunately the band was only together for three years (1966-1968) when they decided to break up and part ways. O.A.R.

OAR3
Originally uploaded by mder.

O.A.R. was started by two junior high school students, Marc Roderage and Chris Culos in the early 1990's. Marc and Chris spent many hours in Chris's parents basement in Rockville, Maryland jaming out and forming there own sound. By the time they reached high school Chris and Marc added two additional bandmates; Richard On (lead guitarist) and Benj Gerhman (bassist) which formed the band known as Of A Revolution. They would spend most of their high school years making a name for themselves by playing in local clubs, bars, and touring locally.

By the time Chris and Marc went to college at Ohio State University they had a very strong underground following selling over 300,000 records by word of mouth and the use of the internet. While at Ohio State they added saxaphonist Jerry DePizzo which added a great blues sound for the band. In 2002, the band decided to sign with a major label (Lava/Everfine records) and they recorded, "In between now and time" which was very successful.

To learn more about the band you can go read up on them at these sites.
